PhD Candidate – Aquatic Ecology
Augustine Sitati is a self-motivated aquatic ecologist with a BSc degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Science from the University of Eldoret (UoE). In 2017, Sitati was awarded a Scholarship under the Kenya Invertebrate Scoring System (KISS) project where he graduated with an MSc in Fisheries and Aquatic Science (Aquatic Science option) from UoE. He is currently a PhD student at the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Alabama, USA. Sitati’s research interests are limnology, plankton ecology, fish ecology and management. His PhD study focuses on the Cladophora microbiome and the ecology of the Eel River, USA. Sitati is a Graduate Council Fellow (GCF), a University of Alabama Fellowship. Sitati has previously worked as a research assistant at the University of Eldoret under the KISS project, a research associate at Ab consultants and as a Senior Fisheries Projects Officer at Coastal and Marine Resource Development (COMRED) in Kenya. During his MSc, he was also involved in tutoring undergraduate and diploma students. He is a member of the Society for Freshwater Science (SFS), Global Youth Biodiversity Network Kenya (GYBN-K); Under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO). As part of his MSc and research roles, he has co-authored over ten articles in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
