Edith Jepchirchir Kurui is a PhD student studying waterpans and public health, under the Sustainable Waterpans Project, at the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, University of Eldoret. Her current research interests entail investigating the risks of waterpans to the entire livelihoods and their alleviation strategies to improve water quality and availability in arid and semi-arid lands (ASALs). She holds a BSc. Environmental Sciences (First Class Honors) and MSc. in Environmental and Occupational Health from Egerton University, Kenya. Her MSc research focused on “Microbiological water quality of water pans in relation to prevalence of water related diseases in Central and South Baringo, Kenya”. Her study evaluated the microbiological, and physical parameters of water quality from water pans in ASAL areas, used for domestic use. As part of her MSc, she published two articles in peer reviewed journals, and presented her findings in international conferences. Edith has served in different capacities as an environmental water and sanitation expert and currently works as a part-time lecturer at Kabarak University. Edith believes that research and development in ASALs areas is critical to innovative water resource management techniques aimed at attaining the access to clean and safe water.
Supervisors: Dr. Frank Masese (University of Eldoret, Kenya), Dr. Claire Furlong, and Dr. Jack van de Vossenberg (IHE Delft, The Netherlands). 2022-Present.
