Mourine Jesire Yegon is a PhD student at the Institute of Hydrobiology and Aquatic Ecosystem Management at the University of Natural resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). Her research interests include, but are not limited to, bioindication, nutrient cycling, ecosystem functioning, biodiversity conservation, and watershed management.

Her current research is centered on investigating the dynamics of biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning (BEF) relationships in freshwater ecosystems. Mourine holds a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic sciences from the University of Eldoret, Kenya and a Joint MSc in Limnology and Wetland Management from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, (BOKU) Vienna -Austria, Egerton University Kenya and IHE-Delft Institute of Water Education, Netherlands.

The majority of her work has focused on biomonitoring aquatic ecosystems using macroinvertebrates, and she has worked extensively on macroinvertebrates in river systems in various ecoregions in Kenya as part of the Kenya Invertebrate Scoring System (KISS) project led by Dr. Frank Masese. Mourine is also part of the African Center for Aquatic Research and Education’s African Women in Science (ACARE_AWIS) program. She is interested in the development, validation, and application of biological indices to better understand interactions in freshwater ecosystems.

Supervisors: Prof. Wolfram Graf, Dr. Simon Vitecek, Ass. Prof. Dr. Gabriele Weigelhofer, Dr. Katrin Attermeyer, Prof. Gabriel Singer and Dr. Frank Masese (University of Eldoret, Kenya).
